Robert Kyriakides

Welcome to my home page. I have set up this web site to provide some information about my work.

My Origins

I was born in London of Greek-Cypriot/ Czechoslovakian parents. We originally lived in Drury Lane and when I was four years old we moved to Poplar, where I was brought up.

My Law Firm

I am a partner in Kyriakides & Braier, a commercial law firm which is located in the heart of London's West End. I established the law firm in 1978 just four years after I qualified as a lawyer in 1974. The law firm has its own web site at http://www.kblaw.co.uk/

We have an excellent team of lawyers and work as a team, bringing traditional values to the practice of law. Our main area of practice is commercial law for small and medium sized businesses, where we offer a cross discipline service to clients.

Our work includes commercial agreements, commercial litigation, divorce, and international work.

My Education

I went to Susan Lawrence School in Poplar and then to George Green's Grammar School, as it then was called, in the East India Dock Road. At school I was lucky to be awarded an Inner London Education Authority Scholarship to France in 1966 and a place on the W H Rhodes Educational Trust Tour to Canada in 1967.

After school I studied for a law degree at the University of Manchester where I was taught by gifted lawyers such as the late Harry Street and Brenda Hale, now a Judge of the Supreme Court. They have been highly influential in my approach to law and to justice.

I took my solicitor's examination after attending Liverpool College of Law where John and Mary Conkerton taught.

I served what were then called articles of clerkship and now called a training contract under Martin Polden of Polden Bishop and Gale in London's West End and became a partner there until until I left to found my own law firm, Kyriakides & Braier, in 1978.

Charity

I am a Governor  of my old school, George Green's School, which is in East London, on the Isle of Dogs. I am also a chairman of the trustees of the George Green Foundation, which is a registered Charity.  The charity provides grants enabling children to do things which they would not otherwise be able to do (such as school trips) and the charity also provides scholarships and bursaries to assist children of George Green's School in their further education.

You can visit the school's website at www.georgegreens.com

My Writing

II have had three books published - the Master Con Man (published by Headpress) and The Energy Age (published by Genersys) and "a Concise Guide to Energy in the United Kingdom. I have also written four books privately published recording the adventures and matches of my cricket club, the Highgate Irregulars.

I have also written thermal solar technical manuals and many essays and articles on the environment which have appeared in a number of publications.

In July 2014 I completed "Disgraceful Conduct of a Cruel kind" which is an account of the court martial of one of my clients, Major Frank Edmunds, which related to his interrogation of Nazi SS officers after the end of the second world war. I am hoping to have this published soon. Frank died at the age of 95 but left me his original papers which dealt with his court martial, which Frank described as "a political court martial".

My Blogging

I have a blog, called "Ideas for the Environment" at  http://robertkyriakides.wordpress.com. I would be very interested in your reactions and your ideas about my ideas. There are more than 2,500 essays on the blog which include environmental matters, politics, current affairs and topics that interest me. I have included on my blog a heading "writings" which have two short stories, some poetry and some original music too. As far as I can estimate the blog has had more than a million views, since I started it in October 2007. I try to write something every day.
